Herbs in Mason Jars

After my foray into canning last year, I have accumulated quite a few mason jars and not all of them are usable for canning.  I put a few to work in my early herb garden. Last summer I enjoyed having fresh herbs off the back porch. This summer, I do not intend to be living in our house, so I’m taking my herbs with me!

I bought flat leaf parsley and sweet basil from the grocery store.

My sister came over to help, since this is obviously a two person job. She has great spray painting form.  Two quick coats of Rustoleum provided the lovely leafy green finish on our planters. We added small rocks to the bottom of the mason jars to help with drainage. We may have a few cold nights ahead of us in Indiana and I will easily be able to bring my herbs inside.

  1. Those are lovely! I gotta try that sometime. I save jars to make candles, but maybe I'll starting planting in them too!

  7. Man, Your sister looks killer in those boots and that hat! lol, seriously though great idea. Which herbs did you use? Do some herbs need more space (bigger jar) than others?
